It is very important to maintain your tree canopies year-round. It is especially important for desert indigenous trees to be maintained regularly, depending on yearly rainfall and annual watering. The Mesquite, African Sumac, Desert Willow and Palo Verde trees can develop their canopies so quickly that it can cause deformities in the trunk and can lead to potentially dangerous growth habits.
We recommend trimming deciduous trees such as the Ash, Elm, Mulberry, and Sycamore during the winter months while the trees are in their dormancy phase. That is an ideal time to pollard and do heavy pruning.
Deciduous trees may still be trimmed when not in dormancy. We recommend doing a light pruning as necessary.
Pine trees may be trimmed year-round, but we recommend that they be trimmed during the winter months to prevent sap from overflowing.
